What
is the UUCF/Andrew Scott Johnson Memorial
Scholarships?
The first one-time only $6,000.00
scholarship is for any individual who is
a child, grandchild
or other immediate family member of a UUCF
member and who is a senior graduating from
high school and will be enrolling in an
accredited two or four-year college or
university
for the year beginning in August or September
2013. (Applicants must be affiliated with
the company that is a
UUCF member in good standing with dues
paid at the time of application. Out of
state branch offices of member companies
are not eligible.)
The second one-time only

who is currently attending an undergraduate
two- or four-year accredited college or
university for the year beginning in August
or September 2013. The enrollment may
be
in a curriculum of any number of years
but the scholarship will not exceed one
year.
(Applicants must be

at the time of application. Out of state
branch offices of member companies are
not eligible.)
Who may apply?
- Any individual who is a child, grandchild or other immediate family member of a UUCF member and who is either a senior graduating from high school and will be enrolling in an accredited two or four-year college or university for the year beginning in August or September 2013. - Any individual who is currently attending an undergraduate two- or four-year accredited college or university for the year beginning in August or September 2013. The enrollment may be in a curriculum of any number of years but the scholarship will not exceed one year.
- Applicant must be affiliated with a member of UUCF in good standing with dues paid at the time of application. Out of state branch offices of member companies are not eligible.
- Any company or individual who is a sponsor of the UUCF/Andrew Scott Johnson Memorial Scholarship Foundation Annual Bass Tournament in the year the scholarship is being distributed.
How and when do I apply?
Complete the application in accordance
with the instructions and send it to the
UUCF/Andrew Scott Johnson Memorial Scholarship
Foundation, Inc. office at the address
provided.
All applications must be received
in the UUCF/Andrew Scott Johnson Memorial
Scholarship Foundation, Inc. office no
later than Monday, June 10, 2013.
What must
accompany the application?
The completed application must be
returned along with:
- a transcript of
high school, accredited college
or university grades through the
latest
period prior
to June 1 (Signed by Guidance
Counselor or Student Advisor),
and
- a
letter of recommendation
from a faculty member of
the high school, accredited college
or
university.
That
letter shall include the
number of students in the graduating
class,
and the
applicant's
standing in the class, and
- Completed General Information,
Academic Information, Extra
Curricular Information
and Essay (500
words or less).
How
will the application
be judged?
The scholarship recipient will
be selected by the foundation trustees
based on the general worthiness of
the application. The foundation trustees
will consider the following:
- essay
- scholastic
standing,
- extra
curricular activities,
- employment
experience;
- ACT
and/or SAT scores,
- career
goals,
- thoroughness
of the completed application.
How will the confidentiality of the application be protected?
When the application has been received
into the UUCF/Andrew Scott Johnson
Memorial Scholarship Foundation, Inc. office,
each application is
given a number and an acknowledgment is sent
to the applicant. The application is handled
only by the association staff. Once this has
been done, the first page of the application
will be placed in a sealed envelope and marked
only with the application number. The association
staff then reviews the application in detail,
and removes any and all words or references that
provide information relating to the applicant's
name, sex, race, religion, address or UUCF member
company. The foundation trustees will review
only sanitized copies of the application.
Should any trustee recognize the applicant through
the remaining information, that trustee will
disqualify themselves from the consideration
of that application, and the remaining foundation
trustees will make the determination regarding
that application. Only winning envelopes are
opened, and the others are destroyed.
