During the Underground Utility Contractors of Florida (UUCF) 2010 Annual Convention at the Gaylord Palms Resort & Convention Center in Kissimmee, Florida, the UUCF/Andrew Scott Johnson Memorial Scholarship Foundation, Inc. announced the 2010 recipient of a $6,000.00 scholarship to an individual who graduated from high school in 2010, the 2010 recipient of a $6,000.00 scholarship to an individual who is currently enrolled in college and its Meritorious Award winners of a $2,500.00.

Timothy "Tim" James Noble

The UUCF/Andrew Scott Johnson Memorial Scholarship Foundation, Inc. is proud to announce the 2010 recipient of the $6,000.00 scholarship to an individual who graduated from high school in 2010, Timothy "Tim" James Noble. Tim is the son of Garth Noble, who is employed by Raymow Construction Company, Inc. in Oldsmar, FL, and Caroline Noble. Tim graduated from Sunlake High School in 2010 with a 3.7790 grade point average. Tim recently started summer classes at Florida State University where his intended course of study is Criminology and intended career plan is Federal Investigation.

Tim was on the National Honor Society for three years, Class of 2010 Leadership Club for four years and was awarded the Top Ten Volunteer in 2008 and 2009. He played varsity baseball for three years and received the Coaches Award in 2008.

Through his church, he has traveled to Oklahoma to build a church for the Cherokee National Reservation where he assisted with the framing, drywall and roofing; traveled to Mississippi to help rebuild the community after Hurricane Katrina where he helped with framework, roofing and drywall as well as spoke with survivors and listened to their stories; and volunteered yearly at the Sports Camp which was a week long event as a Teen Leader.

Mark "Tommy" McCabe, Jr.

Mark "Tommy" McCabe graduated from Cardinal Mooney High School in 2007. Tommy is the son of Mark and Kim McCabe with C & M Road Builders, Inc. in Sarasota, FL. Tommy was a recipient of a 2007, 2008 and 2009 Scholarship. Tommy has been attending Bucknell University where his intended course of study is economics and finance. His intended career plans are in business and infrastructure engineering management. His declared major is in Economics and Political Science.

The following were recipients of a $2,500.00 one time Meritorious Scholarship:

Sarah Maureen Cannon graduated from Lake Brantley High School in 2009. Sarah is the daughter of Mike Cannon, who is employed by Reynolds Inliner, Inc. in Longwood, FL, and Mary Cannon. Sarah was the recipient of the 2009 High School scholarship. Sarah is attending Vanderbilt University where her intended course of study is computer science and math. Her intended career plans are in software engineer, computer science or cryptographer. Her declared major is in computer science and math.

Caroline Frances Castille graduated from Lyman High School in 2010. Caroline is the daughter of Lloyd and Maureen Castille of Castille Company, Inc. in Maitland, FL. Caroline is attending the University of Florida where her intended course of study is business.

Kristina Barbara Runyan graduated from Wiregrass Ranch High School in 2010. Kristina is the daughter of David Runyan of Florida Gas & Electric Corp. in Land O'Lakes, FL, and Michele Runyan. Kristina is attending Florida Gulf Coast University where her intended course of study is nursing. Her intended career path is to become a registered nurse specializing in pediatrics.

Austin Taylor Wynn graduated from Trinity Christian Academy in Jacksonville, FL in 2009. Austin is the son of Donald Wynn, who is employed by Florida Roads Materials, LLC in Jacksonville, FL, and Sandy Wynn. Austin was a recipient of a 2009 Meritorious Scholarship. Austin is attending the Mars Hill College in North Carolina where his course of study is in business. His intended career plans are to open his own engineering firm.

How the UUCF/Andrew Scott Johnson Memorial Scholarship Foundation Was Formed

On December 28, 1999, UUCF Past President Scott Johnson lost his son Andrew "Andy" Scott Johnson at the age of 19 in a tragic automobile accident. In lieu of flowers, the Johnson family requested UUCF members, friends and family to make donations to the UCA of South Florida Scholarship Fund.

In an overwhelming response from individuals, more than $30,000 was collected. Scott Johnson spoke with the UCA of South Florida board members in regards to the funds collected. Due to UCA of South Florida having a self supporting Scholarship Fund, he suggested that a scholarship fund be set up under the name of the UUCF/Andrew Scott Johnson Memorial Scholarship Foundation. The money would be placed in a separate account and would be administered by Scott Johnson, his wife Robin and Andy's mother Martha Kinsel. The issue was brought before the UUCF board members on February 4, 2000. It was Scott Johnson's goal to have the scholarship fund in place and funds be distributed to the first recipient at the 2000 Annual Convention.
